Allow Me to Introduce You to Yourself

Allow Me to Introduce You to Yourself

There’s a young woman that goes by the name of Chrisselle Sesaidh Mowatt. If you were to ask her who she is, she’d probably just laugh and say something like “I’m a clumsy teenage dirtbag, baby.” She’d go on and on about how she’s weird, immature, and short-tempered. Knowing her, she’d probably try to convince you that she’s nothing spectacular. I’m here to tell you different. For once, I think it’s time for someone to introduce Chrisselle to herself.

I’ve known Chrisselle for about six months now, and from the very beginning I knew we would end up being friends. She’s just one of those people that are too good to be true, but at the same time you can tell she’s completely real.

There are many things about Chrisselle that you will discover instantaneously, while others take a bit to  come to the surface. It’s not hard to find out that she’s a native Scot, complete with the thick accent. Half of the time you can’t understand what she’s saying, and the other half you’re pretending you can’t just to aggravate her. When she finds something funny, she’ll let out a small giggle that continuously grows until it’s a full-fledged laugh. You’ll be sitting there with a smile on your face listening to her, until you’re lassoed in, cackling along with her. She’s short tempered when it comes to those that treat her friends badly. Her normally sweet disposition is thrown to the side if you so much as look at her loved ones harshly. It’s almost like she’s a mama bear in her cave, resting peacefully until one of her cubs need her. Then she unleashes her claws and erupts from her hibernation, ready to save the day. Music is one thing she can and will talk to you about for hours. She’s completely obsessed with P!nk, Wheatus, Theory of a Deadman, and Hordasken. She’s a daddy’s girl, her mama’s pride and joy, and her gran was her first best friend. Family is extremely important to her, and she makes sure that no one ever feels left out. Her talents are many, but her heart lies with writing and photography. She’s incredibly gifted in both areas, and you can find her work at Chrisselle.com. These are just a few of the basic parts of her life. To really understand her, you have to look deeper than just the outer layers.

The youngest of eleven children, she’s never had the easiest life. The death of her grandmother, divorce of her parents, and other hardships was a lot to handle at such an early age, but she managed to climb from the rubble, and emerge a complete and beautiful person. Instead of using her situation as a scapegoat, an excuse to be negative, she remained positive and used her experiences to aide others with their problems. For as long as I’ve known Chrisselle, she’s been helping. Whether it be keeping someone company while they work on time consuming projects, or raising awareness about suicide, she’s always doing everything she can to make this world a better place. She didn’t let her rough start in this world change how she sees it now; she can find beauty in everyone.

When it comes to celestial beings and divine entities, I will admit to being clueless. I’ve always heard people talking about ‘guardian angels’ coming to save them in their times of need. I wonder if someone can be named a guardian angel, sort of like one might be declared a saint? What would be the requirements to be dubbed a guardian angel? Would it be based on the number of lives you’ve saved, or simply the number of people you’ve helped? If any of those things are a factor, then I’m sure Chrisselle would be named one in a heart beat.

To me, she’s been one of the best friends I could ever ask for. If I had the means to create a human being by hand, I would never be able to design anything that could compare to the type of person she is. She’s been there to share so many laughs and inside jokes with me, and she’s been there for me when I’ve been down on my knees, breaking down completely. She reminds me that I don’t have to be anyone but myself, and that being me is the most important thing in the world. She inspires me with her humility and her huge heart.  If I needed someone to hold my hand and tell me everything is going to be okay, even if what I was facing seemed insurmountable to me, she would be there. There’s never been a time when she wasn’t there for me; I’ve never had a time in my life when she’s let me down. Out of all the people in the world, she chose me, loud-mouthed-slow-talking-drama-queen me, to be her best friend. I will never understand it, but I’m so grateful that she did.

Right now, she’s at a turning point in her life. She’s leaving her old life behind to start anew, and to do something for Chrisselle. I know that she’s scared at what the future might hold, but at the same time she can’t wait to see. She may not have a master plan of what she’s going to do, but she’s happy and that’s the most important thing. She’s given so much to those around her, and I truly hope that her friends and family will extend to her the same courtesies she has them while she’s on this journey. This is the most important time in her life.  The opportunities that lie before her are endless, and she has a chance to rise even higher, exuding more of her light about into the world.

Chrisselle Seasaidh Mowatt. She may not think she’s anything special, but I know so many people that would tell her she’s wrong. I hope this post has helped her see herself a little better. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said “No one has ever learned fully to know themselves.”, and maybe that’s because we’re looking too closely at our little ‘flaws’, the little cracks here and there, that we miss the big picture.

I owe her so much more than I could ever repay her, and I intend on spending the rest of my life trying to be as good of a friend to her as she has been to me.
